september is the new january

back-to-school was always one of my favorite times of year.  in my day (i've always wanted to say this) the first day of school was always the day after labor day.  i can't seem to get used to seeing kids waiting for the bus in the middle of august.  that's just wrong.

september always brings out my studious and rebellious selves.  there's just something about all those khaki uniform pants that make me want to wear things like rainbow platforms and see-through ponchos!  but more importantly, i'm drawn to blank pages waiting to be filled with new exciting information and ideas.  i want to be stretched and challenged and opened to new possibilities and knowledge.  i'm ready to move and grow.

while i continue to explore who i am and who i will become, these are things i know about me that will probably never change:

• sometimes i am really drawn to creams and taupes and wish these colors looked better on me
• these rainbow stars are about as patriotic as i can get when it comes to clothes
• i have really good observation skills, a combination of razor-sharp sensory perception and finely-tuned intuition, but my memory requires that i take notes
• i like to wear boots in summer
• i would wear jeans every single day if i could
• feeling vanilla is not a bad thing...it's not always a mango-raspberry kind of day
• i feel naked without sunglasses; i like being incognito

five senses friday*

{the dreaming-of-spring&summer edition}

all week i focused:  sunshine, sunshine, sunshine.  warmth was experienced through the senses despite freezing temps.

{see}

• me wearing and enjoying all of the above, floral shorts included (hey, i'm dreaming here)

{hear}

• michael franti always puts me in a sunny state

{taste}

• my summer go-to meal:  fish tacos and a margarita

{touch}

• nothing feels more like summer than bikram yoga (still sticking with it...who knows, maybe those shorts can be a reality for me!)

{smell}

• malibu lemon blossom body butter
• the scent of the sea captured in a jar of sand and shells that sits on my desk

a curious girl in paris

i promise i won't wear an eiffel tower tee while actually in paris (i just loved the ruffly quirkiness of this dress); i believe the metro map, wonky accent and wide-eyed wonder will be plenty to mark me as a happy tourist.

i had a busy, busy weekend and didn't get around to any trip planning.  a lovely visit to annie's blog reminded me of how fun polyvore can be.

well it's pretty clear

when I gather some of the polyvore fun I've had...I certainly have a "look" I prefer. and my wardrobe confirms this: jeans, cardis, striped or paisley tops, flowy tanks, big bags, bangles, boots and scarves. wow. I didn't realize I was so predictable.

weekend me

I plan on eating eggs benedict, browsing vintage and architectural salvage shops, taking in a writing class, snapping lots of photos, listening to music, yogaing, reading this and storming through the huge pile of magazines and catalogs that have been waiting for me for a few weeks. plus, plenty of sun and k time. and I'll be hosting the inaugural 2009 grilled fish taco-margarita backyard extravaganza. all while wearing some sort of variation of my spring/summer uniform: jeans, tee, big bag, big shades and cute sandals.

• more february evenings like last; I sat outside and gazed at the moon in my bare feet.
• why can't the weekend be five days long and the work week be two?
• to not watch or read the news this week.
• a bit of motivation, I'm a bit of a slacker these days.

maybe being gamine will be just what I need.
